India Mandates CCTV Systems on Ships for Enhanced Security
India’s Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) has issued a directive requiring all ships calling at Indian ports to install Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems by October 2025. This measure aims to enhance maritime safety and security by preventing and investigating onboard incidents.
Why the Mandate?
The new rule addresses recurring maritime challenges such as:

Implementation Guidelines
Indian-Flagged Vessels
- Ships over 500 gross tonnage (GT) must install CCTV systems during their next dry-docking or within 24 months.
- New vessels must have operational systems before sea trials.
Foreign-Flagged Vessels
- Ships over 500 GT visiting Indian ports must comply within 12 months.
