Port Hedland will mandate the installation of CCTV for all Capesize vessels.

To all ship owners and managers

Ensure your Capesize vessels (nominal deadweight > 120,000) comply with the latest safety requirements by January 1, 2025. Pilbara Ports is introducing a mandatory installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems to enhance navigational safety and operational efficiency within the Port of Port Hedland.

New Requirement:

Effective from January 1, 2025, all Capesize vessels must have:

  • CCTV Rudder Camera: Installed at the steering gear flat to capture rudder angles during manoeuvring.
  • Bridge Monitor: Positioned to provide real-time visual feedback of the rudder angle for the Marine Pilot/bridge team during transit.

Capture the rudder angles during manoeuvring.

The rudder camera is installed at the steering gear flat, positioned in such a way that clearly captures the rudder angles during manoeuvring.

Wheelhouse Monitor

A CCTV camera monitor must be installed on the bridge, where it is easily visible to the Marine Pilot and bridge team.

Bridge Monitor Location

Install the monitor on the bridge to display real-time footage from the steering gear flat. This will ensure the pilot can accurately monitor and adjust the rudder angles during navigation.
